A new planting initiative for THW route
A visit this week to the Tees brought together Cllr Peter Gavigan Exec Lead for Environment Services, Peter Chapman and Gary Hill Area Managers for Middlesbrough Council and Owen Smith Tees Community Forest Lead . We agreed that there will be a new planting initiative incorporating up to one and a half miles of hedging interspersed with standard tree specimens plus copses of native trees. This will be complemented by several areas of wildflower planting . The planting exercise will also be extended upriver to the edge of Middlesbrough’s upriver boundary.
Together these changes have the capacity to increase biodiversity, transform the riverscape and ensure that future stagings of our Tees Heritage Walk will introduce Teessiders to a steadily evolving riverbank with its three National trails. Oh yes and whilst there it was possible to see a very welcome daffodil pointing upward toward our Donor Board-Spring is on the way and Erimus is greening the Tees!
