Christmas is always a special time of year and this is especially true at Middlesrough
Erimus. This festive period gives us the opportunity to support Santa and his elves
as they visit Middlesbrough to help us collect donations for local good causes. Since
the inception of the club some 40 + years ago members have escorted Santa around
several local estates and shopping centres allowing youngsters, and the not so
young, to say hello and to remind the great man that they should be on the nice list.
Santa generously makes sure all the children go away with some sweets as a
preamble to the main event on the 25th
.
This year’s collection began on December 5th with a festival of music at The Parkway
Centre in Coulby Newham. Santa could not be with us on the day but we were joined
by students from the nearby King’s Academy who raised folks spirits with music and
singing. Later in the day Park End Primary School entertained with their winning
songs from the recent Junior school music competition.
The following day Santa was able to rejoin us when we visited Tesco’s store in
Ingleby Barwick, bringing joy and happiness to shoppers.
Over the subsequent days Santa toured estates in Acklam, Marton Manor and
Nunthorpe. He even found time to wish season’s greetings to supporters of both
Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers as they made their way past
Middlesbrough College to the Riverside Stadium. As the big day approached Santa had one last job to do when he joined us and
several other Christmas characters at ASDA in Southbank. In addition to bringing joy and happiness an amazing £5000 was raised. This will be
donated to the following charities:
The Salvation Army Christmas Toy appeal
Rotary Kid’s out Christmas appeal
Tees Valley Women’s Centre
Other local Rotary Charities
